
MOSCOW, 2 Jun. Argentina footballers outplayed Italy in a special match between the South American and European champions and won a new trophy — the Finalissima. The meeting, held on Wednesday in London at Wembley, ended with a score of 3:0 in favor of the Argentines. The goals were scored by Lautaro Martinez (28th minute), Angel Di Maria (45+1) and Paulo Dybala (90+4). Argentine captain Lionel Messi provided assists to Martinez and Dybala. This match was the last match for Italy for the 37-year-old defender Giorgio Chiellini. The Finalissima as a competition was approved on December 15, 2021 after the signing of an updated memorandum of cooperation between the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL). The tournament between the European champions and the winners of the America's Cup is scheduled for at least June 30, 2028.
