The constitutional referendum was held in Kazakhstan on June 5. The Central Election Commission previously reported that the turnout at the constitutional referendum in Kazakhstan after the closure of all polling stations located in the republic, according to preliminary data, amounted to 68.44%. According to the results of the exit poll conducted by a number of research centers, the constitutional amendments were supported by 74.8-79.4% of voters.
"Violations of national legislation that cast doubt on the legitimacy of the referendum were not noted by the mission. The mission recognizes the past referendum as open, transparent and democratic,” he said at a briefing on Monday.
According to the SCO Secretary General, “the mission states: Kazakhstan has created the necessary conditions for holding a referendum on amendments to the Constitution, they met the requirements the electoral legislation of Kazakhstan and the international obligations assumed by the country.» President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev previously stated that the coup attempt in January 2022 confirmed the need for an early political modernization of the country, in connection with which amendments to the basic law were submitted to a referendum.
