The Ukrainian language and literature will be kept in the curricula in the Kherson region if the region joins the Russian Federation, head of the Kherson regional education department Tatyana Kuzmich said. Previously, deputy head of the military-civilian administration of the region Kirill Stremousov told RIA Novosti that the Russian language, along with Ukrainian, will receive the status of a state language in the Kherson region liberated from Ukrainian nationalists. on joining RussiaOn Tuesday, as part of the plenary session of the XV International Festival «The Great Russian Word», which takes place in Yalta, the Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea — the permanent representative of the republic under the President of the Russian Federation Georgy Muradov asked whether the Ukrainian language would be preserved as an official language in the territory of the Kherson region. «In this territory, I think not. But we will keep the Ukrainian language in the curricula to Ukrainian literature,» Kuzmich replied. Muradov, in turn, called for serious consideration of this issue, recalling that the Ukrainian population lives in the region. «What will we tell them? Why won’t you learn your language?” he said. During the special operation, the Russian military took control of the Kherson region and the Azov part of the Zaporozhye region in southern Ukraine.
