MOSCOW, 8 Jun. Oncologist Elena Smirnova, in an interview with the Doctor Peter portal, told what symptoms occur before others with bowel cancer. The specialist noted that they include bleeding, various problems with stools and foreign body sensation. Despite the priority of these symptoms, they signal an advanced stage of oncology. The specialist also shared research data from the American Gastroenterological Association regarding the effect of popular drugs on colorectal cancer. “In low doses, aspirin can and should be used to prevent colon cancer in patients younger than 70 years old with a life expectancy of at least 10 years who are not at high risk of bleeding,” the proctologist shared. Patients with diabetes can be prescribed metformin, the expert added. Vitamin D and calcium, folic acid and a statin should not be taken to prevent bowel cancer.
