The Presidium of the European Parliament called on the heads of state and government of the EU countries to grant Moldova and Ukraine candidate status for EU membership, Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan said on his social media pages on Thursday. Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed an application for the republic's accession to the European Union on March 3. European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varheli on April 11 in Luxembourg handed over questionnaires to the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and Moldova to start the procedure for joining the EU. Moldova handed over the first part of the questionnaire to the EU representative on April 22, the second on May 12. decision on the applications of Moldova and Ukraine on the status of candidate states.
