The epicenter of both earthquakes was in the city county Maerkan Ngawa-Tibet-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. An earthquake of magnitude 6 occurred on Friday at 1.28 local time (20.28 Thursday Moscow time), the earthquake source lay at a depth of 13 kilometers. An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred on Friday at 00.03 local time (19.03 Thursday Moscow time), the source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 10 kilometers. The authorities sent a group of rescuers and firefighters to the earthquake area. There have been no reports of casualties or injuries at the moment. Earthquakes happen here regularly. In May 2008, the strongest earthquake of magnitude 8 in recent decades occurred here. Then 87,150 people died or went missing, 374 thousand were injured, millions of people were left homeless.
