The diplomat wrote about this on his Twitter account. The reason was an article published by Die Welt with data from the Federal Statistical Office on Russian energy supplies to Germany. As noted in the publication, in the first quarter of 2022, Germany paid 15.8 billion euros for fuel imports from Russia — more than ever before. «Do you call this solidarity with Ukraine? Or is business above all?» Melnik asked a question. The diplomat more than once allowed himself harsh statements about the authorities of the FRG. Thus, he condemned Berlin for its indecisiveness in the issue of military assistance to Kyiv and stated that the unwillingness to supply tanks and infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine would be for Germany «a shame that will go down in history.» Melnyk also accused former chancellor Angela Merkel of a lack of self-criticism, and called her successor Olaf Scholz an «insulted liverwurst». for lack of hospitality
