The court in the Kuban recognized as lawful the eleventh refusal to initiate a case on torture with boiling water in the police

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Krasnodar recognized as legitimate the 11th refusal of the Investigative Committee to initiate a case on torture with boiling water in the police department. Sergei Romanov, head of the Krasnodar branch of the Team Against Torture, told Kavkaz.Realii about this.

Residents of the Gulkevichsky district of the Krasnodar Territory Malakhov and Shvetsova said that in 2018 they were tortured in the police department in order to confess to the murder of an elderly neighbor. Malakhov was poured boiling water over his head, and his wife was beaten on the head with a book. Doctors recorded a burn of the neck and nape of I and II degrees and a bruise on the thigh from the blows.

After that, the spouses were released, but a few days later they were detained and beaten again. Shvetsova said she was hit on the head, shoulders and back with a cooler bottle. In December 2019, she was found guilty of murder and sentenced to seven years (Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code). The defendant pleaded not guilty. Romanov noted that the judicial investigation proceeded very quickly and the case was considered in just six meetings.

Since that time, the Investigative Committee issued 11 refusals to initiate a criminal case on torture, while 10 of them were canceled as illegal, they note “ Caucasus.Realities. The 11th refusal was issued in September 2021 by the investigator of the Investigation Department of the ICR for the Krasnodar Territory, Berendeev.

In 2019, local residents Nikita Khatskevich and Artem Danilov also spoke about torture in the police of the city of Gulkevichi.
