After the start of the Russian special military operation in February of this year, Ukraine immediately began the procedure for applying for EU membership and officially submitted the documents on February 28. Moldova and Georgia submitted their applications for EU membership on 3 March. The European Commission said in a statement that the documents from the three countries were evaluated on the basis of criteria set by the European Council. They cover three aspects: politics, economics and the country's ability to fulfill the obligations of an EU member.
