FINA agreed to hold the World Swimming Championships in Kazan

MOSCOW, June 23 The 2022 World Swimming Championships in Short water will be held in Kazan in 2026, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Andrey Fedorov said during a meeting of the Federation Council on the issue of preventing unfriendly actions against Russian athletes. In March, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) decided to deprive Kazan of the right to host the tournament amid the situation in Ukraine . The tournament, scheduled for December 17-22, 2022, was given to Melbourne. «The Republic of Tatarstan and the All-Russian Swimming Federation held negotiations with the International Swimming Federation in connection with the decisions of FINA to cancel the World Championships. Following the consultation in May, an agreement was reached to transfer these competitions to 2026 and offset the contribution paid by the Russian side,» Fedorov said.
