MOSCOW, July 7 Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal withdrew from Wimbledon before the semi-final match , according to the official Twitter of the tournament.
Nadal was injured in the victorious quarterfinal match of Wimbledon against American Taylor Fritz. In the second set, the Spaniard had problems with the abdominal muscles, because of which, according to him, the team persuaded him to withdraw from the match. On Thursday, Marca reported that the Spaniard played with a seven-millimeter tear in one of the abdominal muscles.
Thus, his opponent in the semi-finals, Australian Nick Quirgios, automatically advanced to the final of the third Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Wimbledon , held on grass courts in the suburbs of London, will end on 10 July. In April, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) refused to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to the tournament because of the situation in Ukraine. In response, in May the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) decided not to award Wimbledon ranking points.
