MOSCOW, 15 Jul. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the appeals of the Russian Football Union (RFU) against the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) to remove Russian clubs and national teams from international competitions, according to a court release.
br>The appeals of CSKA Moscow, Dynamo, St. Petersburg Zenit and Sochi were also rejected. 2022/23 due to events in Ukraine. Because of this verdict, Russian clubs will not be allowed to compete in European competitions, and the Russian team will be excluded from the list of participants in the new season of the League of Nations and, as a result, will lose a place in division B.
In March, UEFA and FIFA issued a joint verdict on the removal of Russia from international competitions, because of which the Russian team was excluded from the participants in the play-offs for reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and Spartak Moscow lost the opportunity to play in the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. All UEFA and FIFA verdicts were challenged by the Russian side at the CAS in Lausanne. At the same time, CAS refused to consider the RFU's appeal in an expedited manner and did not cancel the FIFA and UEFA verdict for the duration of the case, which is why the Russian team was unable to regain its place in the play-offs.
