MOSCOW, Jul 22 The Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) rejected the transfer of goalkeeper Janis Kalnins to Amur Khabarovsk, according to the organization's website. The application for Kalnins' transfer to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) transfer system was received by the LHF this week. After that, the LHF blocked the deal. In April, the Latvian Seimas adopted amendments to the law on sports, according to which athletes and coaches are prohibited from participating in competitions held in Russia and Belarus. In July, LHF General Secretary Roberts Pluzejs said that Kalnins would be denied further call-up to the Latvian national team due to the signing of a contract with the KHL club. Kalnins took part in four world championships and the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing as part of the national team. In the KHL, he previously represented Dynamo Riga and Jokerit Helsinki. In total, the athlete played 199 matches in the league, in which he scored 95 victories (15 — without missed goals).
