File photoMEXICO, Jul 23 Cuba's National Assembly approved a draft of the country's new family code that would allow same-sex marriage, same-sex adoptions and surrogacy in a referendum on the issue at the end of September.» National Assembly The People's Power of Cuba supported the family code and the corresponding resolution. After approval, in accordance with the constitutional norm, it must be submitted to a referendum, «the press service of the Parliament said on Twitter. The development of the provisions of the new code has been carried out since February of this year with the active participation of citizens in the country and abroad — as a result of almost 80 thousand meetings, including discussions with citizens living abroad, almost half of the text of the draft was changed. The chapters that dealt with kinship and parental relations, the institution of marriage and guardianship have undergone the greatest adjustments. The adopted draft is the 25th version of the document and includes equal or same-sex marriages, adoption of children by homosexual couples and surrogate motherhood. A referendum on the adoption of a new code, scheduled for September 25 , will include one question — «Do you agree with the family code?» It will be organized for Cubans living abroad on 18 September.
