The Taganrog city court sentenced local resident Zhora Khachunts to four years in a strict regime colony in the case of stealing equipment from Il-80 intended for the evacuation of the leadership countries in a full-scale nuclear war. This was reported by TASS and Interfax.
Khachunts was found guilty under paragraph «b» of part 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code. The maximum penalty for it is ten years in prison. The state prosecution asked Khachunts for 4.5 years in prison. The Taganrog man did not admit his guilt.

The loss of 39 radio station units and five radio station boards from the cargo compartment of the aircraft was discovered in early December 2020, when the ship was being repaired at the Beriev Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex.
As part of the theft case, the Ministry of Defense filed a lawsuit in the amount of 2.7 million rubles — the court satisfied it. At the same time, the service life of the stolen equipment, as the investigation found out, expired in April 2019.
According to the first version of the prosecution, Khachunts and “other unidentified persons, at an exactly unspecified date and time”, “illegally entered the protected area” of the airfield at the Beriev plant, and “illegally entered through the emergency escape hatch on board” IL-80, from where they stole the equipment, and then disappeared, disposing of it «at their own discretion.» The investigation did not find Khachunts’ accomplices.
According to Olga Boyarkina, Khachunts’s lawyer, the Taganrog citizen was detained on December 26, 2021, “when he went to the store to get water.” REN TV, without specifying the source, reported that this happened after one of the witnesses testified against the man. During interrogation in the temporary detention center, Khachunts said that he did not know anyone at the plant, and on December 3 and 4, 2020, on the alleged days of the theft, he was at work.
