The judge agreed to close the meeting of Ilya Yashin in order to prevent him from «popularizing anti-war ideas»

The Moscow City Court rejected the complaint of politician Ilya Yashin against a measure of restraint and left him in a pre-trial detention center in the case of «fakes» about the army. A listener told about this to Mediazona.

The meeting was closed from journalists, they were only allowed to enter the broadcast room to announce the judge's decision. Then Yashin, through a video broadcast from the pre-trial detention center, took out a sheet on which it was written “No to war.”

The press service of the Moscow City Court, which sent out a video with the announcement of the judge’s decision to journalists, blurred Yashin’s poster with a white square.

“Prosecutor Anna Potychko gave <…> the most reasonable explanation for why the process was declared closed,” lawyer Vadim Prokhorov noted at the exit from the court. — She said the following, I quote: «If you make the process open, Yashin will get a platform to popularize his anti-war ideas.»

Colleagues published on Yashin’s telegram channel the text of his speech in court: “I saw different people in prison <…> There are serious criminals. There are innocent people. There are those who ended up here by an absurd accident. But I am the only one who is sitting in this pre-trial detention center for calling the war a war. When I tell that I am now facing 10 years in the camp, few people believe, because real bandits sometimes get shorter sentences here.

Before and after the meeting, two picketers were detained at the Moscow City Court: the first, Alexei Ushakov, stood at the entrance with a poster “Freedom to Ilya Yashin!”, and the second, Andrey Kizevalter, with a poster “Freedom for political prisoners //KGB officer to resign.”

Criminal case of “fakes” about the army against Ilya Yashin brought in July, when he was serving 15 days of arrest under a protocol of disobedience to the police. The reason for the case was the April live broadcast on YouTube, in which Yashin talked about the actions of the Russian army in the suburbs of Kyiv, Bucha. The politician is charged with clause “d” of part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Corrected at 15:40. In the title, the judge was erroneously referred to as a female, in fact, the session was chaired by Judge Anatoly Korolev.
