The Kyiv District Court of Simferopol sent five Crimean Tatars to pre-trial detention, who were detained yesterday in Dzhankoy and its suburbs in the case of a branch of the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. This is reported by the association «Crimean Solidarity».
We are talking about the journalist of the «Crimean Solidarity» Vilen Temeryanov, phone repairman Enver Krosche, driver Rinat Aliyev, laborers Edem Bekirov and Murat Mustafayev. All sessions were held behind closed doors without listeners — according to activists, about a hundred people gathered near the court.
Another person involved in the case, 65-year-old pigeon breeder Seityai Abbozov, was placed under house arrest by the court at the request of the FSB investigator. As lawyer Konstantin Rustemov clarified, during interrogation Abbozov admitted that he “professed the Hizb ut-Tahrir movement”, but noted that at the meetings they only “discussed dogmas”, and “hatred towards other persons professing a different religion, to other nationalities” there was not.
“He has pigeons and parrots at home. He was very worried that his birds would die. Thank God, relatives arrived, all these issues were resolved yesterday,” the defender added.
All six people came with searches on the morning of August 11. For several, they began earlier than the 6 o'clock in the morning provided for by the Code of Criminal Procedure; this is possible only in «cases of urgency.» According to the FSB, they were members of the Hizb ut-Tahrir branch, which was created by Krosh in February 2015 (Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).
Krosh himself said that at the end of 2015, at the police station, he was beaten by men in civilian clothes who offered cooperation and asked about local Muslims. The activist assumed that they were FSB officers. After his arrest on August 11, 2022, according to Krosh, FSB officers beat and choked him in an official car, demanding to unblock his phone.
Russian authorities link the Crimean Tatars with the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which the Supreme Court in 2003 recognized as terrorist and banned. The organization legally operated on the territory of Ukraine, but after the annexation of Crimea, which was opposed by many Crimean Tatars, Russian security forces began to persecute alleged supporters of the party. » class=»mz-publish-context-cite__image» alt=»1″ />Kitchen terrorism.
