MOSCOW, Aug 16 Alexander Alaev was unanimously elected President of the Russian Premier League ( RPL) based on the voting results of the general meeting of the league, according to the official website of the organization. Alaev, who was the acting president of the RPL, was the only candidate in the elections. He was elected for five years. Previously, Alaev left the posts of head of the Football National League (now the First League) and Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU). Alexander Alaev is the eighth president in the league's history. Previously, this post was held by Vitaly Mutko (2001-2003), Valery Filatov (2003, acting), Evgeny Giner (2003-2004), Yuri Zavarzin (2004-2006), Mikhail Vorontsov (2006-2007), Sergey Pryadkin (2007- 2021) and Ashot Khachaturyants (2021-2022).
