Olympic champion in Sochi is likely to miss the season in the NHL

MOSCOW, Aug 19 Montreal goalie Carey Price likely will miss the National Hockey League (NHL) season due to an injury, Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes said.

"He had an injection in his knee this summer. It didn't help, and at this point we don't expect Carey to be in service at the start of this season. To be honest, I don’t know if Carey has the opportunity to return to action this season after rehab", Hughes is quoted by the NHL website.

Hughes said that Price was placed on a long-term injured reserve, which allowed ” Montreal to free up space under the salary cap and acquire Calgary striker Sean Monahan. Price missed the start of last season due to knee surgery. At the time of the surgery, it was believed that the goalkeeper would need 10-12 weeks to recover, but he was forced to resume rehabilitation in January after a pause due to infection with coronavirus. Prior to that, Price left Montreal in October to volunteer for the NHL and the league's union program to help players with substance use. Price is 34 years old. At the end of last season, he became the owner of the Bill Masterton Trophy award, given to the player who showed high sportsmanship and loyalty to hockey better than anyone else. Price, as part of the Canadian team, won Olympic gold at the 2014 Sochi Games and won the 2016 World Cup.
