The medalist of the Games said that he was sexually abused by the coach for 14 years

MOSCOW, Aug 21 Olympic silver and bronze medalist in diving German Jan Hempel admitted that for 14 years he was sexually abused by coach Werner Langer. Hempel stated this in the film ARD. According to him, it started in 1982 when he was 11 years old. The athlete also blames the German Swimming Federation, which knew everything, but only removed the coach without contacting law enforcement agencies, which allowed him to continue working in the Austrian federation. After the release of the documentary, the federation suspended the former sports director of the federation and the current coach of the national team, Lutz Buschkov, from work. Langer committed suicide in 2001. «The federation told me then that if I spread this information, it would jeopardize our sport and I would no longer be able to play it. Of course, I was at a fairly high level, I there were goals and I wanted to connect my life with them,» Hempel told DPA. Hempel, 51, won a silver medal at the Atlanta Games (1996) and a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics (2000). He also won silver and bronze at the World Championships and four victories at the European Championships.
