Finnish authorities may confiscate the Jokerita arena from owners from Russia

MOSCOW, Aug 27 Finnish authorities are discussing the adoption of a law that will allow the confiscation of the arena hockey club “Jokerit” from Russian owners Roman Rotenberg and Gennady Timchenko. This was reported by the Finnish edition of Helsingin Sanomat. The initiative was proposed by the mayor of Helsinki, Paavo Archimyaki. Officials are considering a version of the law that will allow the confiscation of the property of Russian businessmen, following the example of other European countries. “The city itself does not have the authority to do this,” Archimyaki Helsingin Sanomat quotes. Finland is also considering the option of buying an arena. The potential deal is complicated by the sanctions under which Rotenberg and Timchenko are located. In April, Jokerit announced its withdrawal from the KHL due to the situation in Ukraine. Earlier, the club's management announced its intention to return to the Finnish championship, of which he is a six-time champion (1973, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2002).
