File photoBUDAPEST, Sep 15Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto said that instead of repeating «false accusations» against Budapest, the European Parliament should have dealt with the real problems of Europeans, such as the increase in energy prices caused by sanctions. This is how he commented on the decision of the European Parliament to recognize «serious violations» of European values by Hungary. The European Parliament on Thursday approved a report calling on the EU Council to recognize the risk of serious violations by Hungary of the basic values on which the European Union is based. The deputies noted that in Hungary the main problems are related to «the functioning of the constitutional and electoral system, the independence of the judiciary, corruption, the protection of personal data, freedom of the media, freedom of religion, the protection of the rights of minorities, including LGBT and national minorities, the rights of migrants and refugees» and suggested that the European Commission refuse to pay Hungary from the European budget as part of the plan to restore the economy until all violations are eliminated. «As for today's decision of the European Parliament, well-paid representatives of the European Parliament would do better if they dealt with real European problems, for example, how to help people and the European economy after energy prices have tripled or quadrupled due to the imposition of sanctions. It would be better to look for a way out for Europe from recession, high inflation and high energy prices,» Szijjártó said. The speech was broadcast on social networks. According to him, the European Parliament should deal with these issues, «instead of repeating all kinds of false accusations against Hungary.» «I consider it a gross insult to the citizens of Hungary to question the effectiveness of democracy in our country. The people of Hungary clearly decided in four elections in a row what future he would like for the country. We wonder if some people in Strasbourg and Brussels think that the Hungarian people are not mature enough to decide their own future? It is the constitutional right of Hungarian citizens to decide on the future countries, and they clearly did it,» the minister said.
