Archival photoBISHKEK, Sep 17 The Tajik military stopped shelling the positions of the Kyrgyz border guards after negotiations between the heads of the border departments, RIA Novosti was told at the press center of the border service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan. Rahmonali discussed the situation developing on the border in the Chon-Alai district of the Osh region. «Following the results of negotiations at 14:20 (11:20 Moscow time — ed. note), the Tajik side stopped firing from mortars and artillery mounts on the positions of Kyrgyz border guards in the villages of Teshik -Tash, Karamyk and Karool-Debe,» the spokesman said. He added that the Kyrgyz border guards would continue to take measures to stabilize the situation. Large-scale clashes between the Kyrgyz and Tajik military began the day before and lasted all day almost along the entire perimeter of the border. Kyrgyzstan claims more than 20 dead and over 100 wounded, Tajikistan — about one dead and two injured. A ceasefire was achieved only by night, but this morning the clashes resumed. Bishkek and Dushanbe lay responsibility for this on each other.
