The Zavolzhsky District Court of Yaroslavl sentenced to terms of up to 3.5 years in prison the employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service Sergey Gusarin, Sergey Kuzmin and Vyacheslav Shashkin, who tortured the prisoner with a truncheon. This was reported by the human rights organization «Public Verdict».
Gusarin and Shashkin received three years in prison each, Kuzmin — three years and six months in prison. They all pleaded guilty and repented.
The prosecutor requested the same term for them — three years in prison. They were accused of exceeding official powers with the use of violence and weapons or special means (paragraphs «a» and «b» of part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code).
In 2021, Novaya Gazeta and Public Verdict published video of torture of prisoners in 2016-2017. One of the prisoners on the recordings was a citizen of Georgia, Vazha Bochorishvili. He died from injuries sustained during torture. As Irina Biryukova, the representative of the deceased, told Mediazone, Gusarin and Shashkin kept Bochorishvili on the table while Kuzmin beat him with a rubber truncheon. =»mz-publish-context-cite__image» alt=»1″ /> “In the FSIN system, a position of strength has always been instilled.” What the first convict in the case of torture in Yaroslavl IK-1 said
