Nepomniachtchi retains third place in the chess rankings


MOSCOW, Sep 30 Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi remains in third place in the ranking International Chess Federation (FIDE), an updated version of which is published on the official website of the organization. Nepomniachtchi's rating is 2793. The current world champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2856) takes the first place, the Chinese Ding Liren (2811) is in second place. Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates Tournament in Madrid in early July. He won the right to play again for the world chess crown with Carlsen, but the Norwegian refused the match. Now, in 2023, Nepomniachtchi must play a match for the world title with Ding Liren, who became second in the Candidates Tournament. Another Russian chess player Sergey Karyakin (2747) dropped from 14th to 15th place in the FIDE rating, Alexander Grischuk (2745) remained in the 17th position.
