Russia nominated Rashid Ismailov, President of VimpelCom, who is well known in the international ICT community, including for his work in such companies as Huawei, Nokia and Ericsson. Bucharest, invited the community to prevent Russian representatives from taking leadership positions in the union. In this regard, Cherkesova noted that statements about the exclusion of Russian representatives from the leading positions of the ITU destroy its unity, the effective work of the union depends on fair and non-discriminatory geographical representation, she stressed. The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development also expressed regret about the decision of Romania to cancel visas for the Russian delegation, which had been cooperating with ITU for many years.
