The publication believes that the head of state's rhetoric in regarding the conflict with Western countries was tougher than before. «Putin tried to show the West his determination: he does not succumb to the pressure of sanctions and arms supplies to Ukraine and will continue to fight,» the publication says. The authors of the article believe that the Russian leader has demonstrated to the rest desire to lead a global movement against US hegemony. «He said that the West has not changed since the days when it ruthlessly colonized other countries and waged wars for economic gain,» writes the NYT. On Friday, Vladimir Putin delivered a speech at a rally-concert on Red Square in honor of the results of the referenda on joining Russia to the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. He called the day of signing the agreements historic and noted that Moscow gave the inhabitants of these regions the right to choose, and they did. Shortly before that, a ceremony was held in the Georgievsky Hall of the Kremlin to sign agreements on the admission of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia. The documents were signed by Vladimir Putin and the heads of the regions: Denis Pushilin, Leonid Pasechnik, Evgeny Balitsky and Vladimir Saldo. Lavrov
