The Sovetsky District Court of Chelyabinsk has sentenced Vladimir Kazantsev, a lawyer from STOP GOK, to four years in a penal colony. This was reported from the courtroom by the correspondent of 74.ru.
Kazantsev was found guilty in cases of fraud using his official position (part 3 of article 159 of the Criminal Code) and attempted fraud on a large scale (part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code).

According to the case file, he received 500 thousand rubles from his client for «assistance in making a court decision» in his favor, » realizing the absence of a real opportunity «in any way to influence this case. In addition, according to investigators, the lawyer tried to get 2.5 million rubles from another client to transfer to an employee of the Arbitration Court of the Chelyabinsk Region.
Kazantsev was detained at the end of August 2020. The STOP GOK office and his apartment were searched and a phone and a laptop were seized.
A colleague of the lawyer, Irina Tryakshina, then suggested that they wanted to remove him from participation in court hearings at Tominsky GOK. “Vladimir is the head of the organization that is suing the GOK. He is a key figure, and he was isolated, ”Tryakshina emphasized in August 2020.
STOP GOK is an association of environmental activists fighting against the construction of the Tominsky GOK, which, according to local residents, will cause irreparable damage to the ecology of the Chelyabinsk region.
