Former Formula 1 pilot from Russia announced his retirement from racing

MOSCOW, Oct. 24 Former Formula 1 pilot Russian Sergey Sirotkin said that it is not worth waiting for his return to racing. Sirotkin played in Formula 1 for Williams in the 2018 season. He also worked with the Sauber, Renault and McLaren teams. The 27-year-old Russian was supposed to compete in the European Endurance Cup in 2022, but among the participants in the Russian racing program SMP Racing missed the season after the International Automobile Federation (FIA) banned Russian drivers from participating in competitions under the flag of their country .

"Will I return to racing? No, I should not be expected in the races. As much as I enjoy piloting, I don't see it as a real opportunity for development, even in the medium term. Therefore, I see no reason to spend time and effort on this, which could be much more useful if directed in another direction", Sirotkin wrote on his Instagram*.

In May, Sirotkin was appointed to the position of executive director of the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF).* The activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are banned in Russia as extremist.
