Cuban Ambassador Announces Presidential Visit to Moscow Next Week

MOSCOW, Nov 16 Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel plans to come to Moscow next week, meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and attend the unveiling of a monument to Fidel Castro, said Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Russia Julio Antonio Garmendia Pena.
“Our president has not come to Russia since 2019 – first -the situation with the pandemic, then because of the logistics.Now he has received an invitation from President Vladimir Putin to visit Russia, negotiate and take part in the opening of the monument to Comandante Fidel Castro, which will take place on November 22. Our president has such a plan, it is expected that he will come,” he said in an interview with the agency.

Answering the question whether there will be a meeting between Diaz-Canel and Putin, the ambassador noted that such talks are planned. “Of course, if he (Miguel Diaz-Canel) is here, it is envisaged that he will meet with the president,” Peña said. meeting between President Vladimir Putin and the leader of Cuba, said that certain contacts “with Cuban friends” are being prepared.
