WASHINGTON, Nov 28 The United States recognizes Turkey's right to self-defense, but want de-escalation in northern Syria, said National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby.
«Turkey continues to suffer from terrorist attacks, both near this border and elsewhere in the country. And they have the right to defend ourselves, our citizens from these attacks,» he said at a briefing at the White House.
«We want to see a de-escalation of tension, we do not want to see actions that would lead to additional casualties, especially among the civilian population,» Kirby added. .
The United States, according to him, is also concerned that a possible military operation by Turkey could damage the joint struggle of the United States and Kurdish formations against the terrorist organization «Islamic State»* (banned in Russia).
