PARIS, Dec 4 Member of the French Parliament, leader of a political movement «Get up, France» Nicolas Dupont-Aignan said that the EU should stop supplying weapons to Ukraine, lift sanctions against Russia and «calm down» Vladimir Zelensky to avoid «economic suicide».
After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the West stepped up sanctions pressure to Russia. The disruption of supply chains has driven up fuel and food prices in Europe and the US.
«Now is the moment to avoid European suicide because this conflict is pushing us to social and economic suicide. This is the moment to come to peace and find a compromise between the two countries and reassure Zelensky,» the politician said on the Europe 1 TV channel.
He noted that the conflict in Ukraine «has gone in the wrong direction,» Zelensky is using the situation to weaken Russia. «France must distance itself from the conflict in Ukraine and take the position of an arbitrator. Today, Zelensky's goal is no longer the defense of Ukraine. His goal, sacrificing the Ukrainian people, is to serve as an instrument for the destruction of Russia. This is a very serious mistake,» he said.
Dupont-Aignan stressed that this conflict puts China and the United States in an advantageous position, brings Moscow and Beijing closer together, and pushes Europe into a situation of energy, economic and social crisis.
«It is absolutely necessary to end economic sanctions against Russia and arms supplies to Ukraine subject to a ceasefire.We need to sit down at the negotiating table.Russia is and will remain a great power.It is necessary to convince Russia and Zelensky and protect the interests of France, without plunging into an energy, social and economic crisis, when our best productions go to the United States or China, because this is exactly what is happening now,» he concluded.
Earlier, Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any cargo that contains weapons for Ukraine will become a legitimate target for Russia. The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation stated that the NATO countries are «playing with fire» by supplying weapons to Ukraine. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
