WASHINGTON Dec 20 U.S. Supreme Court upholds a rule that allowed for the immediate deportation of illegal migrants in the interests of fighting the coronavirus.
The legal rule put into circulation during the presidency of Donald Trump was supposed to expire on Wednesday, December 21, but Chief Justice John Roberts extended it while considering a petition from the state of Arizona to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mallorcas.
«Ordering that the November 15, 2022, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia decision … is withheld until further direction by the undersigned or the court,» the decision, signed by Roberts, said.
A court in Washington on November 15 issued an order to stop such deportations, raising fears of an uncontrolled influx of illegal migrants into the United States.
