BELGRADE, Feb. 9 Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in response to the intention of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, to hold a round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, said that a Community of Serb Communities (CSO) in the province must be formed, because he is «not interested» in going to Brussels just like that.
Borrel said on Thursday that he expects to hold a meeting of the leaders of Serbia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo in Brussels within the next two weeks. The head of EU diplomacy at the summit of the EU countries planned to inform the leaders about the progress of mediation efforts to resolve this crisis.
“If you want to call me to Brussels and convince me to agree to the MTR along with something or after something, then you don’t need to call me. Then invite me on a tourist trip, but I’m not interested, I have already been to Brussels 200 times. If you invite me, let them know that you will create an MTR, when you do this, I will come to talk about everything else,» Vucic told reporters in Kursumliya, near the administrative line with Kosovo.
American Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill said the day before that the United States insists on the implementation of all previously reached agreements between Belgrade and Pristina, including the formation of the Community of Serb Communities (CSO) in accordance with the 2013 Brussels Agreement.
The Serbian authorities and the embassies of Western countries in Pristina are paying attention to the frequent statements by the prime minister of the self-proclaimed Kosovo, Albin Kurti, about his unwillingness to form a SOF under an agreement mediated by the EU. The Brussels agreement assumes that 10 municipalities of Kosovo and Metohija with a Serbian majority will receive additional powers in the field of economy, education, medicine, a flag and other attributes of autonomous self-government. Kurti, in public speeches, calls the future of the SSO an «association» and opposes its national character.
The assembly (parliament) of Serbia, after two days of debate with the participation of the president late on Friday evening, by a majority of votes, approved the government's annual report on negotiations on Kosovo and Metohija and the situation in the region. The President of Serbia announced to the parliamentarians 10 points of the program of the country's leadership in the face of external pressure. Among them are the preservation of peace and stability, the demand to form a Community of Serb Communities in Kosovo and Metohija, ensuring the security of Kosovo Serbs, attracting foreign investment to Serbia, and so on.
Vučić repeatedly and clearly repeated that he «will never recognize Kosovo's independence and is against Pristina's entry into the UN.»
He also stated that Belgrade will continue the policy of military neutrality and «will try to hold out as long as it can without imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation.» The armed conflict in Ukraine, in his opinion, is growing into the Third World War, and Western countries are increasing pressure on Serbia due to their refusal to support sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Vučić said earlier that the country's authorities have not yet agreed and have not signed the latest Western proposals for a settlement in the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, which involve the gradual entry of the territory into the Council of Europe, UNESCO and the UN without Belgrade's formal recognition of independence. He also noted that it is no longer correct to call this plan «Franco-German» since it is being promoted by both Brussels and the United States. At the same time, the content of the proposal of the West is not disclosed in detail.
