MOSCOW, February 15 Investigation by an American journalist, Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh about the involvement of the US authorities in the terrorist attack on the Nord Streams did not receive wide coverage in the foreign press. A number of major publications in the US and Britain chose to ignore it, but in Spain the article was called the bomb and the exclusive of the year. The Chinese newspaper expressed concern about the safety of the journalist.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously expressed surprise that Hersh's investigation was not widely reported in the Western media. According to him, this may be somewhat controversial, but very serious and important publication, which should provoke an acceleration of the international investigation.
In Hersh's homeland A week after the article was published, major American media such as the New York Times and the Washington Post did not write anything about it. The New York Post limited itself to a short retelling of the investigation immediately after publication. In the first paragraph, the newspaper emphasizes that the Pentagon denies the allegations.
The American edition of Business Insider wrote about Hersh's article only the next day after its publication. At the same time, it focused on the reaction to this investigation in the Russian Federation, calling it a «gift» for Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, the publication notes that the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov drew attention to Hersh's statement.
The Washington Times wrote in an editorial on Feb. 13 that it had not established the credibility of the information given in the Hersh investigation, as did most major media outlets that «want to protect (U.S. President Joe) Biden from criticism.»
At the same time, the publication emphasizes that the accusations are so serious that the Americans should demand an explanation as to whether Biden was involved in the operation, which the Russian Federation, a power with a nuclear arsenal, could perceive as an act of war.
Skepticism in the British and German media German publications were skeptical about Hersh's investigation of Nord Stream. The newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung noted that Hersh once revealed the atrocities committed during the Vietnam War, but his latest materials are allegedly «increasingly» saturated with conspiracy theories, for which «the stage loves him.»
The t-online columnist, in turn, pointed out that this time Hersh's findings are not published by major media such as the New York Times and the Associated Press. He also noted that over the past few years, investigations by a well-known journalist have increasingly raised doubts, and Hersh refers to only one anonymous source in an article about US involvement in undermining Nord Stream.
Handelsblatt's correspondent also claims that Hersh's article is «not worth the hype that is being raised around it.»
And only the Berliner Zeitung — almost a week after the release of the investigation — posted an interview with Hersh.
The British newspaper The Times limited itself to retelling the article, and also indicated that the charges were denied in the United States. The major British editions of the Financial Times and the Guardian did not cover the investigation.
For the Spaniards — a bomb At the same time in Spain, Hersh's investigation did not face serious criticism. On February 9, the Confidencial newspaper published a retelling of an article by an American journalist, and also called it a bomb that claims to be «exclusive of the year.» At the same time, Confidencial notes that the largest American newspapers, which once gladly published Hersh's sensational news, chose not to make a single link to his article.
Another Spanish publication, Pais, published an opinion that paid a lot of attention to details from Hersh's biography. In particular, it is noted that during his career, the American journalist uncovered a number of high-profile scandals.
«If part of his investigations have anything in common, it is that they are inconvenient for Washington, London and other embassies of imperialism, where news is fabricated, which a good part of our news agencies disciplinedly reproduces,» the article says.
The newspaper Vanguardia cited a retelling of Hersh's article, and also noted that in September, when the Nord Stream explosions took place, many European media blamed Russia for them. «Now another possibility arises,» the article emphasizes.
Reaction in Asia The Australian edition of the Chronicle began its publication with a rebuttal by the White House. The publication notes that although the journalist received a Pulitzer Prize, his relatively recent publications are controversial, and critics have accused him of spreading «conspiracy theories» and relying too much on anonymous sources.
The Indian media, in particular the Indian Express, Economic Times and India Today, released materials almost immediately after Hersh's article, limiting themselves to a short retelling. They also stressed that the White House denied the allegations.
At the same time, India Express provided a detailed biography of the journalist, in which she spoke about his long career, as well as how he received the Pulitzer Prize for investigating the crime of the US military in Vietnam.
The Chinese newspaper Global Times, which publishes news in English, in turn wrote that, according to experts from the PRC, Hersh's publication about the terrorist attack on the Nord Streams is trustworthy, and the author himself has established himself as a reliable journalist with his investigations US military crimes in Vietnam and Iraq.
At the same time, analysts have expressed concern about the safety of Hersh after the publication of the investigation.
Investigation American journalist, Pulitzer Prize winner Hersh on February 8 published an article about his investigation of explosions on gas pipelines. His publication says that during the NATO exercises Baltops in the summer of 2022, American divers installed explosives under the Nord Streams, which the Norwegians activated three months later. US President Joe Biden decided to sabotage Nord Stream after more than nine months of secret discussions with the national security team, Hersh said.
Later, the Pentagon said that the United States had nothing to do with blowing up Russian gas pipelines last year. The White House made a similar statement. The State Department urged to believe the position of the United States.
From the analysis of the tracks in the Flightradar24 archive, carried out, it follows that the aircraft of the US and German navies in June 2022, during the Baltops-22 exercises, regularly circled over the sites of future explosions on the Nord Stream pipelines. From June 8 to June 16, German and US P-3 Orion and P-8 Poseidon aircraft flew over the sites of future explosions, according to Flightradar24. At the same time, the military aircraft descended to low altitudes and transponders were turned off in almost every flight, so some of their trajectories remained unrecorded in the portal tracks.
The attacks took place on September 26, 2022, on two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe at once — Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden do not rule out targeted sabotage. The Nord Stream operator Nord Stream AG reported that the state of emergency on gas pipelines is unprecedented and it is impossible to estimate the repair time. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation initiated a case on an act of international terrorism. On October 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin reported that Gazprom was allowed to inspect the site of the explosion and the head of the company, Alexei Miller, reported to him about the inspection. Putin also said that the explosion on the Nord Stream gas pipeline is an obvious terrorist act.
