BERLIN, Mar 14 German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is radically reorganizing the leadership of the Bundeswehr, deciding dismiss Inspector General Eberhard Zorn, German magazine Spiegel reported.
«According to Spiegel, the SPD minister has decided that the Bundeswehr will get a new inspector general in the person of Carsten Breuer. The current inspector general, Eberhard Zorn, will be fired,» the magazine reported.
Breuer previously headed the crisis headquarters for COVID-19 in the office of the chancellor.
It is noted that by his decision Pistorius will radically reorganize the leadership of the Bundeswehr.
«The inspector general is not only the highest-ranking member of the armed forces, he also holds an important position in the ministry, close to that of the secretary of state. At the same time, the inspector general is the chief military adviser to the chancellor,» the publication explains.
It is noted that on Monday Pistorius already brought his decision to Zorn, but the ministry did not officially announce personnel changes.
According to the German newspaper Bild, earlier Zorn, being an inspector general, attracted attention in a September interview in Focus magazine, where he expressed fears that the Russian side might attack several neighboring countries.
