Media: US upped stakes in key region

MOSCOW, 15 Mar. The White House has upped its game on strategic partnership with India, wrote former US Ambassador to Pakistan Hussein Haqqani and Aparna Pande, director of the India and South Asia Future Initiative at the Hudson Institute, in an op-ed for The Hill.
«The Biden Administration considers cooperation with India not only as an opportunity to resist Russia and China, but also the most important partnership in the 21st century,” the authors of the material noted.

Haqqani and Pande indicated that an official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington is planned in June, as well as talks between the leaders of the two countries at the G-20 summit in September. The head of the State Department, Anthony Blinken, and the Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen, also met with the Indian leadership during international forums.

In addition, the countries agreed to strengthen technological and economic ties. Thus, the United States decided to finance Indian startups and infrastructure projects. Particular emphasis in relations is placed on the development of telecommunications, the authors added.
At the same time, observers stressed that India is not going to be an ally of the United States in an American-centric world. Instead, Delhi promotes the strengthening of international organizations and associations, as well as the concept of the «global South».
