MINSK, March 15 The Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrey Shved said, that Russia handed over to the Belarusian side documents of the Wehrmacht with previously unknown information about punitive operations.
«From them (Wehrmacht documents handed over by the Russian side — ed.) we learned dozens of previously unknown places of mass extermination of people. We learned that punitive operations were carried out that were not previously known,» the press service quotes Shved as saying Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office.
In particular, one of the translated documents mentions the conduct of the «Monkey in a Cage» punitive operation that did not appear anywhere.
«»Vitebsk region, the end of the forty-third year, from the documents of the Wehrmacht it follows that they destroyed dozens of settlements and, as they themselves write, at least 14 thousand partisans, that is, civilians. And nowhere, not in any of our documents , there is no information about this punitive operation. Moreover, they documented the consumption of their ammunition with such scrupulousness,» Shved said.
In Belarus, the investigation of the criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period continues. According to the prosecutor's office, by the beginning of 2023, 16,000 people had been interrogated in a criminal case on the genocide of the Belarusian people, over 7,600 of whom were prisoners of death camps.
Belarusian prosecutors additionally established information about at least 1.3 thousand previously unknown burnt settlements, as well as over 90 death camps. In 2022, field searches were carried out in 25 burial sites of the victims of the genocide. In 2023, it is planned to carry out field searches in 36 such places.
