The Shelkovsky District Court of Chechnya returned the complaint of a lawyer who was not allowed to see his client, Idris Arsamikov. This was reported to Mediazona by the SOS Crisis Group.
The reason for the return was that a «properly certified copy of the certificate» was not attached to the complaint. At the same time, there is no such procedure as certification of a lawyer's certificate, human rights activists note. In addition, the law does not provide that a certificate must be attached to the complaint.
Arsamikov said that in 2018 he was tortured near Grozny because of his homosexuality. With the help of human rights activists, he was able to leave for the Netherlands and received refugee status. In 2023, he returned to his father's funeral, but on his way back from Russia, on February 16, he was detained at Domodedovo airport and handed over to Chechen police.
This was justified by the reference to Arsamikov in the case of fraud on a large scale (part 3 of article 159 of the Criminal Code), which was signed that day by the head of the criminal investigation department MIA for the Shelkovsky District of Chechnya. “The defenders were not allowed into the building of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Shelkovsky district, and the employees refused to tell where the client was,” the crisis group said.
Later, Arsamikov published two videos on VKontakte, in which he asked “LGBT people” “leave behind” him, and said that he was going to war in Ukraine.
“How will I publish it if the paper has arrived?”. The police from Domodedovo gave Chechen security forces a refugee who flew to the funeral of his father from the Netherlands
