In the very heart of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, in a matter of decades, the city of oil workers Gubkinsky has grown. More than 30 thousand people live here, most of whom are employed in the oil industry. The boundless tundra, full of natural resources, stretches around for hundreds of kilometers. It takes a lot of effort to get them out of the ground and use them for the good of the country. That is why the company «Rosneft» annually develops and implements innovations. Complex Geology
If you drive away from the city of oil workers for a couple of kilometers, you can find signs that are incomprehensible to a resident of the rest of the country. Here and there, blue signs tell you that you are approaching a facility called «BUSH #…». And although the tundra is not rich in vegetation, it is unlikely that every bush is marked here.
“The geology is rather complicated here. In order to extract oil, it is necessary to carry columns into the ground not strictly perpendicular to the bowels, but partially in a horizontal plane. At one point, several columns can go down — so that if we turn the diagram over, we get a real image of a bush. Hence the name,” explains Vitaly Sorokin, project manager for the construction of a central oil collection point and booster compressor station.
According to Sorokin, the Severo-Komsomolskoye field not only has difficult geological conditions, but also the oil here has a high viscosity. Production is carried out from wells with horizontal sections of the wellbore 2 km or more in length, 144 such wells have already been drilled. Modern high-tech solutions are used in drilling and production.
«Scientists» Rosneft » designed a mobile oil treatment plant. It is small-sized and consists of several devices that allow for the discharge of associated petroleum gas up to 80%. With its help, it was possible to increase the volume of oil production by 30%,” Sorokin added.
The unit has a number of innovative solutions that allow installation in the field and in a shorter time. The economic effect of its implementation amounted to more than 1 billion rubles.
In «SevKomNeftegaz», which is a «daughter» of «Rosneft», uses a unique and most complex technology in Western Siberia for intelligent completion of wells.
It works like this: two pipes descend into the earth layer. The well starts working. When one of the pipes wears out, it is simply destroyed, and the second one remains. It is much easier and cheaper than repair work. You don't need to stop mining. In addition, the system is equipped with anti-sand downhole filters that allow you to save downhole equipment and surface infrastructure.
Autonomous inflow control devices are also used, which allow you to effectively produce high-viscosity oil by limiting the flow of water and associated gas into the well. The device itself – slightly larger than a 5-ruble coin. And the benefits of it – huge. It reacts to the pressure difference and simply does not allow anything but oil to pass through the well.
Another know-how of the enterprise is a well with a multilateral horizontal wellbore with a total length of over 4,000 meters. The main horizontal shaft, two kilometers long, is joined by six additional shafts, each more than 300 meters long. All shafts were drilled in one trip, that is, the drilling tool was not raised to the surface. For drilling through the oil-bearing reservoir, a trajectory correction was used, which was carried out using high-tech Russian-made equipment. Drilling a horizontal wellbore with a multilateral ending made it possible to achieve a 2-fold increase in oil inflow. The use of domestic equipment has significantly reduced the cost of well construction.
If the column (or pipe) nevertheless leaks, then the engineers of Rosneft will also have no problem with this. has its own answer: a temporary bridge plug made of composite material for carrying out repair and insulation work on wells affected by flooding. Note, completely domestic development!
“This is a temporary wellbore sealing device that provides a division into two zones of the production string. Where we will fix the hole, and the part that needs to be protected from negative impacts during work. A plug is used on a failed well stock, that is, those where water began to flow due to a breakdown. It allows you to quickly return them to duty. The cork is easily removed and withstands pressure up to 700 atmospheres. Previously, tools made of cast iron or aluminum alloy were used, but there were many difficulties in the treatment, it took more than a day to remove them. And the new composite can be removed after the completion of work in just 1-3 hours,” said Yury Shamanaev, Head of the Production Intensification Department
The plug is lowered into the wellbore to the desired depth. A small explosive device is inserted into one part of it. On the spot, it explodes, and the rubber inside the cork expands, making the area airtight. This irreplaceable «know-how» for columns that have complex geometry and small diameter.

Oil, unfortunately, does not immediately come out of the ground as a finished product. It contains both gas and water, which must be separated. And with the right approach, you can still benefit from them. So, for example, at the key enterprise of the Rosneft gas program — «Purneftegaz» the level of rational use of associated petroleum gas exceeds 99%, which is one of the most efficient indicators in the industry. An impressive result was achieved due to the commissioning of modern production facilities: the booster compressor station of the Komsomolskoye field, the compressor station of the Ust-Kharampurskoye field, the associated petroleum gas collection system of the Barsukovskaya group of fields.
“The innovation of the booster compressor station of the Komsomolskoye field lies in the fact that the operating equipment is a domestic development. Namely, the compressor units are driven by aircraft engines. There are 7 gas turbine engines at the facility, which are constantly in operation, and the 8th is a backup. – said Igor Buga, head of the gas preparation shop.
Company «RN-Purneftegaz» (part of the Rosneft oil production complex) has begun commercial development of a new Yuzhno-Tarkosalinskoye field. Six production wells are planned to be put into pilot development this year.
“In February of this year, RN-Purneftegaz produced the 275 millionth ton of oil. This is the result of hard work and professionalism of our employees, but the main tasks are yet to come. The geology in our region is very complex, however, this year we are entering two new license areas. This is the Yuzhno-Tarkosalinskoye field, where we plan to start production in April. In the future, more than 200 wells will be drilled at this field and more than 13 million tons of oil will be produced. We will also develop the western dome at the Komsomolskoye field, the preparatory work has been completed,” said the General Director of RN-Purneftegaz and «SevKomNeftegaz» Aidar Gabdulkhakov.
All the innovations of Rosneft and domestic developments that the company is actively implementing and using in Yamal are beyond list: these are “auto-drillers” who do all the hard work for a person, and intelligent oil flow control systems, and composite plugs, with which you can repair a well for less than 130 but in a couple of hours. All these devices and solutions make it possible to increase production volumes and save a lot of money: for example, the economic effect of innovations at Purneftegaz for 5 years amounted to 3.8 billion rubles, and in «Sevkomneftegaz» — 1 billion. But most importantly, they make the work of oilmen easier and safer.
