The case of an evangelical pastor who created an illegal shelter where 22 people died in a fire has been sent to court. Recall that in December 2022, a terrible fire broke out in a rooming house organized by a priest and businessman Andrei Smirnov. The fire killed 22 guests and 6 more were hospitalized.
Investigators of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under the articles of the Russian Criminal Code «Causing death by negligence to two or more persons», «Negligence» and «Provision of services that do not meet the requirements of life safety, resulting in the death of two and more persons».

The accused stated that all authorities were aware of the existence of the shelter and even came with checks. The fire department, in turn, said that they were not allowed into the territory of the shelter shortly before the tragedy.
The investigation still believes that the fire was caused by a faulty boiler house. According to experts, the fault lies with the organizer of the shelter, Smirnov.
