The incident occurred when she was training before a rehearsal.
The organization «People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals», also known as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), has already responded to the incident. Activists urged the show's producers to ditch filming with real horses and use CGI instead.
«If the creators of the project can not do without the exploitation of animals for their art, then they should come up with something — no one wants to watch a television project whose theme is torment,» said Lisa Lange, senior vice president of PETA .
This is not the first time this has happened. Three horses died in the production of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012). And in the summer of 2022, animal rights activists condemned the authors of the Gilded Age series, where a horse also died.
The first season of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power premiered on September 2, 2022. The start of filming for the sequel became known in early October 2022.
