The Bavarian manufacturer intends to introduce the eighth generation BMW 5 series family this fall. It will include, among other things, fully electric versions of the sedan and station wagon (although the “five-door” will debut later).
The history of the BMW 5 series began more than half a century ago: the start of production was given in 1972. Recall that the “five” of the current seventh generation debuted in October 2016. The performance of the model in the European market has been gradually declining since 2018: for example, in 2017 old-world dealers sold almost 110 thousand cars, while in 2021 the result did not even reach 53 thousand copies. The change in the generation of the “five”, which will soon expand its own family, will help increase interest.

By the way, the socket “shed” will be presented in the spring of 2024. Now the Bavarian manufacturer continues to work on the «five» of the eighth generation: earlier, photo spies caught disguised prototypes of the future novelty during road tests. jpg» />Now the manufacturer has published a series of official «spy» shots of the «four-door» BMW i5, which were taken during recent winter testing. The company tested the electric car while driving on ice and snow in northern Sweden. One of the first stages of testing was the trip of camouflaged prototypes from Munich to the test center located in Arjeplog. The length of the journey was about 3 thousand km. As a result, developers were able to study the operation of electric motors, traction batteries, electronics, as well as heating and cooling systems.
Directly at the test center in Sweden, the engineers began to fine-tune all the transmission control systems and the chassis of the BMW i5. So far, the manufacturer keeps secret the technical characteristics of the future “green” novelty. It is assumed that buyers will be offered various options for “stuffing”, including a “charged” version created by analogy with the BMW i4 M50: we recall that such a liftback is equipped with a twin-engine power plant, the total output of which is 544 hp. (795 Nm).

As we reported earlier, petrol and diesel versions will remain in the range of the next “five”, however, all internal combustion engines will work as part of a mild hybrid system in tandem with a 48-volt “electric addition”. It is known that the line will include plug-in hybrid modifications (however, there are no details about them yet).
The appearance of the eighth generation BMW 5 series has not yet been declassified, but the designer Kolesa.ru has already suggested what the exterior of the new «five» will be, as well as its charged version — the BMW M5. It is known that a curved display, familiar from other recent brand novelties, will appear in the cabin, combining a virtual “tidy” and a touchscreen of a multimedia system with the new BMW OS 8.5 operating system. will be set up at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany (Bavaria). Chinese lengthened versions, which received the letter «L» to the name, should debut towards the end of this year.
