It was revealed last week that Ford plans to revive the Capri name with a new electric SUV. What will it be like?
Under the name Capri, from 1968 to 1986, a coupe was produced based on the Ford Cortina model. Initially, the car was conceived as a European analogue of the Mustang and turned out to be very successful: about 1.9 million copies were sold during production. In recent years, rumors have repeatedly appeared about the revival of a famous name, it was mainly assumed that they would make the heir to that very model in a coupe body. However, now all indications are that the name Capri will get a sporty coupe-like electric crossover.

There is also a teaser with several future Ford products, one of which is supposedly the new Capri. This teaser shows only the characteristic graphics of LED running lights, consisting of four arc-shaped elements in each headlight. In a sense, this can be considered a reference to the old Capri models with four round headlights. It is likely that the rear optics will be made in a similar style. Also shown in the renders, the crossover received a lower roof compared to the electric Explorer and a stronger slope of the rear pillars, which is characteristic of the now fashionable coupe-shaped crossovers. jpg» />Rendering of the new Ford Capri
Like the Explorer EV, the novelty will be built on the Volkswagen MEB platform (Ford and VW signed an alliance in 2020). The Explorer is offered with three power plants, two of which are mono-drive with a single electric motor on the rear axle, which produces 125 kW (170 hp) or 210 kW (286 hp). There is also an all-wheel drive modification with two motors with a total power of 250 kW (340 hp).
The premiere of new items is expected next year.
