Ilya Baburin, a defendant in the case of organizing the arson of military registration and enlistment offices in Novosibirsk, has been charged with attempted treason. This is reported by the «Solidarity Zone».
In September 2022, the FSB reported on the detention of Baburin — the security forces reported that a case had been opened against him for organizing a terrorist attack (part 4 of article 205.1 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, the young man «on the instructions of foreign customers» was looking for «performers to set fire to the buildings of military commissariats.»
Later, for the same actions, Baburin was accused of involvement in terrorist activities (Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code), and on March 31 it became known that an article on attempted treason was added to the case (Article 275 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 3 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code). At the same time, no new episodes appeared in the case.
The FSB ruling states that Baburin “organized the commission of a terrorist act” on the instructions of the Ukrainian Azov battalion, which in the summer of 2022 was recognized by the Russian Supreme Court as a terrorist organization. The Solidarity Zone writes that this is an «unprecedented case», since the accusation of preparing for treason is based on hypothetical plans to set fire to the military registration and enlistment offices. “We believe that this case is motivated politically and by the fact that FSB officers are trying to report on the fight against ‘enemies of the people’ in this way,” the project says.
After the arrest, Baburin was taken into custody. The young man refused a deal with the investigation — because of this, according to the «Solidarity Zone», he is bullied in the pre-trial detention center. In the isolation ward, he was not given a mattress, pillow, or bed linen, and as a result, he had to sleep on his own jacket. He was also not given books and magazines to which he subscribed.
On March 23, the Solidarity Zone said that in January Baburin was put in a “psychiatric isolation ward” without any evidence — this is a special cell with rubber walls, in which prisoners prone to self-harm are placed. Before being placed in this cell, the young man was completely undressed; a video camera located in the isolation ward filmed it. Baburin was not taken out of the «psychic cell» to the toilet. In protest, he said the video camera, after that he was sent to another room, where he sat naked for two days.
