The decision to fire the head coach football team «Nizhny Novgorod» Artem Gorlov does not look quite right, the specialist should have been given time and opportunities to build the game of the team, said Valery Nepomnyashchy, who previously headed the national teams of Cameroon and Uzbekistan.
The club on Tuesday announced the termination of the contract with Gorlov. In the spring part of the season, Nizhny Novgorod suffered four defeats in four matches of the Russian Premier League (RPL), including a technical loss from Torpedo Moscow. Gorlov headed the team in December 2022, replacing Mikhail Galaktionov, who moved to the capital's Lokomotiv. Previously, the specialist worked in the first league with the Krasnoyarsk «Yenisei». Sergei Yuran has been appointed as the new head coach. His previous club was Khimki, which he left in August 2022.
“For me, this is not quite the right decision, and as a coach, I do not agree with this. Because a specialist should be able to realize himself to the fullest, but such is our life. You know, when I worked in Korea, Carlos Bilardo, who became earlier (in 1986) with the Argentina national team as the world champion, coached the Spanish Sevilla. But he worked only four or five games and he was asked from the club to coach the world champions, «Nepomniachtchi said.
“Having lived my life, I still don’t understand what criteria an employer is guided by when hiring a coach,” the specialist added. “On the one hand, there are no regulatory factors — education, age, and so on. But on the other hand, how to evaluate professional qualities, how a specialist fits this team, and whether he has the opportunity to build a game? There are many such questions, and I, in general, have no answer to them. »
Game and performersThe interlocutor of the agency evaluates Gorlov as a good analytical specialist.
“Artem Gorlov, as I understand it, is a very strong analyst and can clearly sort everything out at a high level of quality,” Nepomniachtchi said. “I don’t criticize him in any way. But there is a second component — is it possible to use «What does the coach earn and what does he prepare? That's what happened with Gorlov: he came to the team and decided that it should play that way. But, perhaps, the specialist did not see performers who can play such football.»
«Of course, I really wish Sergey Yuran that everything will work out for him,» the expert emphasized. «Because, after all, Nizhny Novgorod needs great football, and I would not want this team to be relegated either. I think that they are definitely not in danger of a direct flight, there, unfortunately for me, there are two serious candidates (Torpedo and Khimki — ed.).»
Nine rounds before the end of the RPL championship, Nizhny Novgorod, with 19 points, is in 13th position in the standings, in the zone of transitional matches.
