MOSCOW, Apr 27 Due to the influx Ukrainian universities are raising the cost of paid education for male students of military age, the Ukrainian edition of Strana reports on Thursday.
Earlier, the Ukrainian edition of Nashi Dengi reported that Ukrainians of military age, trying to avoid mobilization, are increasingly entering higher education institutions for paid education, only in 2022 the number of male students increased by 82%. According to the law «On mobilization training and mobilization», student status guarantees a deferment from conscription into the army. According to the publication «Strana», educational institutions record an increase in the interest of male applicants in enrolling in paid education.
«The Student scheme is expected to become even more popular this year…. Unprecedented excitement among applicants allows educational institutions to raise contract prices,» the publication reports.
According to the rector of the STEP Technical University in Kharkiv Vitaliy Zaitsev, according to the law, universities have the right to raise tuition fees by the percentage of inflation over the past year, and inflation in Ukraine in 2022 was high. Thus, universities can raise prices by up to 25%. According to the publication, in regional universities the price tags start from 15-16 thousand hryvnia (406 to 433 dollars) per year, while in the capital — 30-35 thousand (812 and 948 dollars) and more.
According to the legislation, full-time students have the right to deferment from conscription or mobilization for the duration of their studies, it is valid until a person graduates, reminds the publication.
In Ukraine, on February 24 last year, a martial law regime was introduced, the next day Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization, men liable for military service were forbidden to leave the country.
