ANKARA, Apr 28 There is no clarity around the situation with the extension of the «grain deal», Ankara is waiting for the support of its efforts from the West, said a source familiar with negotiations.
The message of the UN Secretary General António Guterres to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the «grain deal» contains a detailed set of arguments about the ongoing efforts, but things are still there, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the head of state, earlier.
«You are aware of the efforts of the UN Secretary General and the Turkish departments to resolve the situation. But now I do not have a clear and precise answer to your question about the prospects,» the source said, answering a question about the prospects for extending the term of the «grain deal» .
According to him, Ankara, as the initiator of the deal, together with the UN, which took responsibility for its implementation, are making a number of efforts.
“We expect our Western partners to support our efforts,” he specified.
The grain deal, which was signed on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, involves the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizer across the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa. The package agreement also provides for the unblocking of Russian exports of food and fertilizers, Moscow noted that this was precisely what was not done, while there were assurances from the UN that these restrictions would be lifted. Earlier, Russia extended the Black Sea grain initiative for 60 days — until May 18.
