NEW DELHI, Apr 30 India and Russia will study the possibility of accepting cards of national payment systems RuPay and Mir in both countries against the backdrop of sanctions imposed by the West in against Moscow, according to the Economic Times, citing sources.
“According to sources, at a recent meeting of the high-level government commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation, it was discussed and decided to study the possibility of allowing the acceptance of these cards. According to sources, the mutual acceptance of RuPay (India) and Mir (Russia) will help citizens of India and Russia make hassle-free payments in Indian rupees and Russian rubles in their countries.
The participants of the meeting, co-chaired by Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov, also agreed to explore the possibility of interaction between the single payment interface of the National Payments Corporation of India and the fast payment system of the Bank of Russia.

In addition, it was also decided to consider the possibility of introducing the Service Bureau of the Financial Message System of the Bank of Russia for cross-border payments.

Currently, payments from India to Russia and vice versa are made via SWIFT, the publication recalls.
