MOSCOW, May 25. Omsk Avangard on the official website confirmed information about the death of Russian ice hockey champion Yevgeny Khatsey.
Earlier, a source said that Khatsei died, presumably from a heart attack. He was 46 years old.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden death of Yevgeny Khatsey. The Avangard Hockey Club offers its condolences to the relatives of Yevgeny Vladimirovich. Yevgeny Khatsey will forever remain in the history of Omsk hockey as a professional in his field,” the message says.
Hatsei is a graduate of the Chelyabinsk hockey school. As part of Avangard, he became the champion of Russia in 2004. Khatsei also played for the Yaroslavl “Torpedo”, Magnitogorsk “Metallurg”, Khabarovsk “Amur”, Novosibirsk “Siberia”, Moscow Region “Vityaz” and other teams.
Since 2018, Khatsey has been working at Avangard: he was the club's director of hockey operations, head of the development of the MHL and VHL teams. Since May 2022, he has been working as the director of the Omsk club's academy.
